According to the police, a homicide investigation was now happening in the north-west suburb of Streamwood. This comes after a woman, age 21, and a daughter, age 10, were both stabbed to death inside a townhome on Wednesday night. The police are currently seeking for a suspect connected to the incident who is regarded to be “armed and dangerous.”
At approximately 7:50 p.m., officers were sent to a residence located in the Woodland Heights East community, which is located close to the intersection of McKool and Miller Avenues, as reported by the Village of Streamwood. Law enforcement officials blocked off the complex with crime scene tape and established a command centre for the Major Case Assistance Team in the vicinity of the scene. The scene remained active throughout the night and into the early hours of Thursday morning.
Both Janiya Jenkins, age 21, and Eyani Jones, age 10, were identified as the deceased individuals who were discovered inside the residence, as stated by the Cook County Medical Examiner. Both of the deceased individuals were from Streamwood.
There is now no danger to the general public, according to the police, who stated that preliminary evidence indicated that the incident was completely isolated.
At around 15 miles east, in the neighbourhood of Bensenville, police were told of a “potential crime” in Streamwood late on Wednesday night, according to the village. Officers located a suspect’s car at Redmond Park, which was located in the neighbouring neighbourhood. The community reported that an immediate perimeter was established, and that a comprehensive search of the park was carried out with the assistance of search dogs and drones. According to the village, law enforcement from the surrounding area, as well as the Cook County Sheriff’s Office and the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office, were present at the scene.
In addition, the village stated that the Major Case Assistance Team and the Streamwood Police Department had been given responsibility for the investigation.
After further investigation, the suspect, Jalonie Jenkins, who was 25 years old and had been seen in Bensenville, was identified by the police at Streamwood.
In a statement, the police stated that “Jalonie is armed and dangerous,” and that his last known whereabouts was in Bensenville. In the event that he is seen, please alert 911, and do not approach him.
