A police pursuit in the south suburbs of Chicago resulted in a collision on the Far South Side of the city that involved a Pace bus and three other vehicles. The collision resulted in at least eleven people being hurt.
Police in Chicago reported that the collision took place on Wednesday evening in West Pullman, close to the intersection of South Halsted Street and West Vermont Street.
According to a representative for the Blue Island Police Department, officers were attempting to pull over a car that was allegedly responsible for blowing a red light when the vehicle escaped and the officers chased it.
It was reported by the police that the vehicle collided with a Pace bus, and that two other vehicles were also involved in the collision.
After the collision, nine persons, including a toddler, were sent to hospitals for treatment of their injuries, according to sources. It was determined that five were in a critical to serious state, while four were in good condition.
Angelo Townsend, a witness, stated that there must have been something terrible for them to be driving that rapidly down a residential neighborhood and heading on to traffic. I was aware that it was going to have a disastrous outcome. It was my observation that one of them was thrown out of the front window of the black Jeep.
The debris was dispersed over Vermont and Halsted, where witnesses reported that a black Jeep had crashed with three other cars, one of which was this Pace bus, while officers from the Blue Island Police Department were pursuing the vehicle.
“The PACE bus was given the go-ahead to proceed. Ora Lee Staten, a witness, stated that she appeared to be in the right. “Next thing you know, we got this black Jeep… car spun out.”
It was observed that a passenger from the Pace was carried into this ambulance and transported to the hospital.
At the time of the collision, witnesses reported that there were at least three males inside the Jeep.
In a different vehicle, there was a family that was accompanied by youngsters, according to witnesses.
I don’t think it’s that serious. What kind of criminal act you’ve committed is irrelevant to me. Both killing another person and killing oneself are not that terrible of a crime. Witness Keno Nowling urged everyone to “stop.”
The news of any arrests was completely absent.
As the investigation by the police continues, there was no other information that was immediately accessible.
