12-Year-Old Severely Injured by Boat Propeller Near Indiana Beach, Airlifted to Hospital

A 12-year-old boy was hurt in a boating accident near Indiana Beach on Wednesday afternoon and had to be flown to a hospital in Indianapolis. Indiana Conservation Officers are now looking into what happened.

Around 3 p.m. on July 9, police were called to White County’s Lake Shafer to find a boy hurt in a fishing accident.

When the police arrived, they saw that the 12-year-old was tubing behind a boat. When he tried to get back on the boat, the motor was turning.

In a news statement, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources said the boy’s legs were hurt “significantly” when the propeller hit them.

After being quickly brought to land, the boy was flown to Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital on the north side of Indianapolis to get medical care.

The Indiana DNR didn’t explain anything else about the crash.
