16-Year-Old Boy's Remains Discovered in Landfill After Nearly Two Months of Search Efforts

The family of a child who went missing from Minnesota and was 16 years old has arrived at some devastating conclusions after over two months of searching for him. His remains have been confirmed to have been discovered by the authorities.

Tuesday was the day that officials made the announcement that the body of Jordan “Manny” Collins Jr., who was 16 years old, had been discovered at the Elk River Landfill. Since the beginning of June, authorities have been searching through the debris at the landfill.

When asked about the encounter, Anoka County Sheriff Brad Wise replied, “I assure you that it is a sobering experience to work in a landfill like that, only to discover someone else’s child.”

On May 8, Collins Jr. was last seen at a neighborhood in Columbia Heights where his father, Jordan Collins Sr., owns an apartment. This was the last time anyone knew he was alive during that time period. They searched the landfill near Elk River, according to Wise, because of the information that was presented to investigators after the disappearance of the younger Collins.

Wise stated that they were provided with information that led them to a video, and the video displayed some evidence that would suggest the body may have made its way into a dumpster and then into a garbage truck.

According to the sheriff, the garbage truck loaded that container on June 13, which was one day after the mother of the younger Collins brought him to the attention of the authorities. Investigators were given a certain cell to search, and waste management geofenced the rubbish that was located in their landfill.

According to Wise, “that cell was compacted to be that much larger than a football field, measuring 200 feet by 200 feet by 4 feet.”

By Monday, the results had confirmed that the remains belonged to the younger Collins, as stated by Wise. The remains were discovered on Saturday afternoon. In addition to the 10,000 hours of labor that have already been put in by the thirty different agencies that are engaged, the searchers are still going through the trash in an effort to find additional evidence.

At least one person of interest has been identified by Wise, who revealed that the authorities are considering the death of the younger Collins as a homicide investigation. To this day, the cause of death of the adolescent has not been established; additional medical and forensic examinations are still being conducted.
