On Tuesday, a 19-year-old man from Chicago was taken into custody and charged in connection with a shooting that occurred at Illinois State University in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois, and resulted in the injury of another individual.
Emir Thomas was arrested in Chicago with the assistance of the United States Marshals Service, according to the Illinois State University Police Department. Thomas was charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery involving the discharge of a firearm, and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon in connection with the incident that occurred on April 27.
Around seven forty minutes past seven o’clock on that Sunday evening in April, a shooting occurred close to the Bone Student Center, which is located at 200 North University Street in Normal. The event was attended by registered students. According to the evidence, the shooting occurred during a fight that was taking place in the entranceway outside of the event.
Immediately following the shooting, the university police stated that they had reviewed hours of footage from public safety cameras, investigated evidence, conducted interviews with witnesses, and collaborated with the office of the McLean County State’s Attorney in order to make the arrest.
According to statement made by university police, Thomas was not associated with Illinois State University.
