27-Year-Old Woman Struck and Killed After Stopping on I-44 in Illinois

A woman was killed in a collision that occurred in St. Louis County on Saturday just before midnight, according to the police.

According to the crash report filed by the police, the woman, who was 27 years old and from Caseyville, Illinois, was driving a 2011 Toyota Camry that had stopped on Interstate 44, obstructing a westbound lane as a result of an earlier collision.

The report states that a second car, a Ford SUV from the year 2021, was traveling in the westbound lanes when it rear-ended the Toyota Camry.

According to the police, firefighters from the Fenton Fire Protection District came to the location during the incident. Those who responded to the scene reported that the woman had passed away before she could be taken to the hospital.

Based on the investigation, the collision took place on Interstate 44 close to Mraz Lane, approximately 1.5 miles west of Interstate 270.

In the investigation, it was stated that the woman who was killed in the accident was not wearing a seatbelt.

Troop C of the Missouri State Highway Police is conducting an investigation into the collision. This particular troop is responsible for serving the following counties: Franklin, Jefferson, Lincoln, Perry, Pike, St. Charles, St. Francois, St. Louis, Ste. Genevieve, Warren, and Washington and is currently conducting the investigation.

According to a spokeswoman for the police department, this is the 71st passenger fatality for Troop C.

According to the webpage for Troop C, there were 275 fatalities that occurred in vehicles in the year 2024.

On the morning of Sunday, there was no report available on the initial collision.
