57-Year-Old Mom Dies After Car Plunges into Pond on Foggy New York Morning

Wayne County, NY – A tragic accident on the early morning of September 24 has claimed the life of 57-year-old Robin Sardone, who drove her car into a pond under foggy conditions in Wayne County, New York. Despite being able to call 911 shortly after the crash, Sardone was found dead inside her vehicle hours later.

How the Incident Unfolded During Foggy Conditions

According to Wayne County Sheriff Robert Milby, the accident occurred shortly after 4 a.m. when Sardone failed to stop at a stop sign and drove through an intersection before plunging her car into the pond. Dense fog likely affected her visibility, contributing to the crash.

Robin Sardone quickly called 911 after her vehicle entered the water, but her call was abruptly cut off as the car submerged. Emergency responders arrived at the scene within minutes, and a firefighter wearing water gear immediately entered the pond to search for her.

  • Police, sheriff deputies, South Macedon Fire and Rescue, Macedon Center Fire Department, and Macedon Town Ambulance all responded to the call.
  • A specialized dive team arrived around 5:05 a.m. and conducted a search lasting over two hours.
  • Remotely operated vehicles equipped with sonar were used but impeded by an extreme amount of plant life in the pond.

The Search and Recovery Efforts

The search team’s efforts culminated when a diver located Robin Sardone’s body inside the sunken car at approximately 7:40 a.m. Sheriff Milby confirmed she was unable to escape the vehicle, tragically ending in her death.

“She was not able to self-extricate,” Milby stated to the Democrat and Chronicle.

An investigation into the crash is currently ongoing, with an autopsy planned to officially determine her cause and manner of death.
