People in the area are remembering the 9-year-old boy who was rushed from Jones Beach in Dartmouth this week after he was in serious medical trouble.
At around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said that Dartmouth Police and EMS got a 911 call about a male juvenile who was in medical trouble at Jones Beach, which is at 66 John Street in Dartmouth.
When police got there, they saw the young man, who they described as from Pawtucket, Rhode Island, lying on the beach while people around him did CPR. The child was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, but was later declared dead.
Also sent to the scene were Massachusetts State Police from the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
Reports from people who were there said that the young victim had been swimming and got out of the water on his own. Once the boy got to the beach, he started having health problems.
A death notice said that Laritson Duarte-Soares “was a very kind boy. Wherever he went, he would make friends right away with people he didn’t know.” During this school year, he was named “Best Student in the Whole School.” His nice personality and funny smile made a big difference in many people’s lives. With his favorite cousin Edvany, he liked to dance, play video games, play baseball, and ride his bike. She lived in New Bedford and was his aunt Anabelas (Nany). He liked spending time with her and his cousins, especially Edvany, during school breaks. So much love, fun, and light came from Laritson to everyone who knew him. His kind heart will be missed, loved, and honored forever.
People who work at Laritson’s school agreed with her.
The funeral will be place at the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave., Lincoln, RI, on July 16, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., after which there will be a visitation. The burial will take place in Providence’s North Burial Ground Cemetery.
The case is being looked into, but right now it is not thought to be worrisome.
