Kroger Recalls Peach Salsas Over Listeria Contamination Concerns

Kroger has issued a recall for certain peach salsas sold in its stores due to possible listeria contamination, as part of a broader recall involving peaches supplied by Moonlight Companies. This precautionary measure aims to protect consumers from the risks associated with the harmful bacteria Listeria monocytogenes.

The recall was initiated after JFE Franchising and Supreme LLC, producers of the affected salsas, were alerted by their fruit supplier about potential contamination. Although no illnesses or complaints have been reported as of November 3, 2025, federal safety officials urge consumers to take these warnings seriously.

The Scope of the Kroger Salsa Recall

The recall affects two specific brands of peach salsa sold at Kroger stores across multiple states:

  • Snowfruit brand Peach Salsa: Available in 16-ounce plastic clamshell containers, priced at $5.99. Sell-by dates range from 11/3/2025 to 11/4/2025. UPC code: 639123940636.
  • Supreme Produce brand Peach Salsa: Sold in 14-ounce clear-plastic grab-and-go containers. Best-by dates range from 10/12/2025 to 10/29/2025. UPC code: 85006540364.

The Snowfruit salsa was sold in Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming. The Supreme Produce salsa was distributed in Illinois, Colorado, Georgia, Washington, Indiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oregon, and Michigan.

Background and Cause of the Recall

The recall traces back to Moonlight Companies, which initiated its own recall on October 29, 2025, for California-grown yellow and white peaches potentially contaminated with listeria. These peaches were used by the salsa manufacturers in their products supplied to Kroger stores.

Fruits and fresh produce can be exposed to listeria bacteria through multiple contamination pathways such as:

  • Fecal contamination via water sources or fertilizer
  • Proximity to livestock during growth
  • Contamination during harvesting, processing, or preparation

“Listeria poses a serious health threat, particularly to older adults, pregnant women, and individuals with weakened immune systems,” a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) notice emphasized, underscoring the importance of vigilance when consuming fresh produce.

What Consumers Should Do

Customers who purchased the affected salsas are urged not to consume the products. Instead, they should:

  • Return the items to the original place of purchase for a full refund
  • Dispose of the product safely if returning is not possible

Additional Peach Products Included in the Recall

Besides the salsas, Moonlight Companies recalled several other peach products sold between September 16 and October 29, 2025, across various retailers, including:

  • California-grown yellow and white peaches sold individually and in multi-packs, identifiable by PLU stickers (4401 and 4044) and specific UPCs
  • Moonlight White Peaches branded as “Peppermint Peach” in multi-packs with several UPC codes
  • Kroger-branded yellow peaches in multi-packs

Health Risks and Symptoms of Listeria Poisoning

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), listeriosis is a serious infection caused by the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes. It can be life-threatening, especially to vulnerable groups such as older adults, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems.

Common symptoms include:

  • Fever and muscle aches
  • Headache and stiff neck
  • Confusion and loss of balance
  • Gastrointestinal issues like diarrhea
  • Severe outcomes such as miscarriage, stillbirth, or infections in newborns

“Anyone in higher-risk categories who experiences flu-like symptoms within two months of eating potentially contaminated food should seek immediate medical attention,” the CDC advises.

Stay Informed and Act Promptly

The Kroger peach salsa recall highlights the ongoing need for stringent food safety standards and consumer awareness. By promptly returning or discarding any recalled products, consumers can help safeguard their health and that of their families.
