A fire that had spread across twenty acres of open space was extinguished by firemen from the San Jose Fire Department on Sunday afternoon, according to the department.
At approximately 2:15 p.m., crews received a call regarding a fire that was occurring in the vicinity of Ruff Drive and West Hedding Street, which is located close to the airport in San Jose.
According to the fire service, the fire started initially at 5 acres and had grown to around 20 acres. The fire produced a significant amount of smoke. The crews encountered some difficulties, however there were no injuries and no structures were damaged as a result of the incident. In addition, nearby encampments were shielded from the flames with protection.
It was discovered that there were five puppies in the area, and they were handed over to animal care services.
The traffic was impacted for a period of time, but by evening, it had cleaned up.
The investigation is still looking into what caused the fire.
