Man Killed in South Jersey Crash After Running Stop Sign, Police Say

An accident involving two pickup trucks that occurred on Thursday evening at a junction in Cumberland County resulted in the death of a motorist.

According to the Vineland Police Department, Calvin B. Harrje, 70, of Deptford, Virginia, was driving eastbound on Pennsylvania Avenue in Vineland at approximately six o’clock in the evening when he failed to pay attention to a stop sign at the junction with Hance Bridge Road.

On Hance Bridge Road, his car was involved in a collision with a truck that was being driven by a Vineland man who was 54 years old and travelling north.

According to the police, Harrje was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, while the Vineland driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.

The inquiry is still underway, according to the police, who stated on Monday that no charges have been filed.
