On Tuesday night, a fiery crash on Route 2 West near Exit 15 caused a lot of traffic problems. The scene of the crash has since been cleared, and the highway is now open again.
Officials from the Colchester Fire Department say that workers got to the scene quickly after a car caught fire after the crash. Police from the state confirmed that the accident, which happened just before 9 p.m., involved only one car.
Firefighters worked quickly to put out the flames, but the fire’s strength did a lot of damage to the area. It’s still not clear what caused the crash, but police said the car looked like it lost control before it caught fire.
Initial reports say that there are major injuries, but the exact number of victims and their conditions have not been released yet. The incident is being looked into by state police, and no other information was known at the time of this writing.
Commuters had to wait a long time because traffic had to be redirected off the highway because of the accident. Drivers were told to stay away from the area for a few hours while the cleanup was going on. Luckily, Route 2 West reopened late last night, after workers finished cleaning up and making sure the area was safe.
Even though what happened was scary, the police are telling drivers to be careful and pay attention to the road conditions, especially when going fast in high-speed places. More information should be made public in the next few days as the probe continues.
