Mother and Son Killed in Tragic Tucson Freeway Crash

According to the authorities, a mother and her son were the two individuals who were murdered in a collision that occurred on Interstate 10 in Tucson on Sunday night.

Stephanie Marie Codina, 42, and her son, 11 years old, were sitting in a car that was rear-ended after the driver stopped to help when a vehicle that was involved in a minor accident at the Speedway exit, according to the state Department of Public Safety. The accident occurred after the driver stopped to look for help.

On Tuesday afternoon, it was not possible to quickly confirm the nature of the relationship that the two individuals had with the driver, who was still outside of the vehicle at the time of the collision.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., the collision took place in the westbound lanes, and the driver of the vehicle that Codina was riding in stopped on the median shoulder in order to provide assistance. In a news release issued by the Department of Public Safety, it was said that a commercial vehicle that had travelled into the emergency lane rear-ended the parked vehicle.
