Saginaw Man Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle in Petoskey Walmart Parking Lot

There was a deadly incident that took place at the Walmart in Petoskey on June 1st, and the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting an investigation into the matter.

Deputy sheriffs responded to a report of a person being struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of Walmart at approximately noon on Sunday, as stated by the sheriff’s office after receiving the information.

A pedestrian named Donald Paul Mitas, who was 83 years old and from Saginaw, was recognized.

Immediately following the impact, Mitas was taken to the McLaren Northern Michigan hospital in order to receive medical attention. On Monday, June 2, he passed away.

The man behind the wheel of the vehicle was a woman from Alanson who was 24 years old. She was not hurt in the incident that occurred.

According to a news release issued by the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office, the investigating authorities have stated that the investigation is still ongoing, but they do not believe that alcohol or narcotics played a role in the incident.

The statement that Sheriff Matt Leirstein made in the release was as follows: “During this trying time, we want to express our most sincere condolences to the Mitas family.”
