A incident involving five vehicles, including a trooper from the Maryland State Police, occurred in Howard County, Maryland, according to the Maryland State Police. The crash resulted in the death of one individual, the arrest of another individual, and the injury of many other individuals.
It was early on Sunday morning when troopers from the Maryland State Police Waterloo Barrack received a call concerning a collision that involved a trooper in the vicinity of southbound Interstate 95. The collision occurred at 2:02 a.m.
An initial investigation has shown that a trooper who was on duty and driving an unmarked police car was struck from behind when the officer was parked on the left shoulder of Interstate 95.
Following that, a Jeep Cherokee struck the parked vehicle of the trooper for reasons that are yet unknown, according to the authorities. The impact of the collision prompted the Jeep to deviate onto the roadway, where it was involved in a collision with a GMC pickup truck, then a Lincoln SUV, and finally a Volkswagen passenger vehicle.
According to the police, the driver of the Jeep, whose identity has not been disclosed, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
After receiving treatment for their injuries, the trooper and a passenger in the Jeep were sent to a shock trauma center in the vicinity. The trooper was later discharged from the facility, as stated by the police personnel. The individual who was driving the GMC pickup truck was also taken to a local hospital to receive medical treatment for his injuries.
According to the authorities, the individual who was driving the Volkswagen was identified as Brenton Passmore, who is 32 years old and hails from Crofton, Maryland. At the scene, he was taken into custody and charged with allegations of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team is currently conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the collision.
