A search of a Portland apartment turned up drugs, a gun and body armour, which the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) said Saturday evening. Two men were arrested.
A search request was carried out by the PPB’s Narcotics and Organised Crime Unit at an apartment block on Southwest 12th Avenue around 9:30 a.m. on May 30. Three people were arrested.
The warrant was part of an ongoing investigation into possible drug trafficking behaviour at the site.
Detectives have strong proof that at least one handgun was in the house, according to the authorities.
The Crisis Negotiation Team and the Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) from PPB were called in to help with the operation because the guns could be dangerous.
The cops say that SERT members broke down the door to get into the flat after telling the people who lived there to leave.
Officers found two men inside the flat. They were later named as Uriel Aceves-Leos, 30, and Verdell Centre, 29. Both people were taken, but nothing was written down about what happened.
A search of the apartment found a loaded gun, about 85 grammes of methamphetamine, and a body armour suit. Officials said that the amount of meth and other proof found in the area showed drug distribution activities rather than just possession.
Aceves-Leos, who lives in Portland, was arrested and taken to the Multnomah County Detention Centre (MCDC) on several charges. Among these are having a gun while a felon, selling methamphetamine or another controlled drug, and having a controlled substance on hand.
MCDC also had a record for the second possibility, Centre. He is also accused of having body armour while being a criminal, which is against some Oregon laws, and of selling and having methamphetamine, which is also against the law.
It is still being looked into by the Portland Police Bureau. Anyone who knows anything about the case should call the police and give them case number 25-130095.
This arrest brings to light ongoing problems with drug dealing and illegal gun possession in the Portland area. It also shows the dangers police may face when working with suspects who are armed.
