A street takeover and a shooting that occurred on Sunday in Pineville resulted in one person being taken into custody by the police and another person being taken to the hospital.
In the vicinity of Park 51 Shops, just after four o’clock on Sunday morning, the Pineville police department responded to a street takeover that had occurred. Multiple automobiles gathered together and “engaged in reckless driving, including burnouts and donuts in a parking lot,” according to the reporting of the police.
Multiple 911 calls had been received by the police regarding a big crowd, automobiles that were blocking traffic, and the possibility of firearms being fired.
A brawl had broken out at the gathering, and according to accounts, one of the participants shot a weapon multiple times, hitting a vehicle and injuring one of the victims in the leg. Other victims were injured.
In accordance with the authorities, the victim was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.
While Glenn Counts of Channel 9 was present at the location on Sunday evening, he observed a number of pairs of sandals that had been left behind since Sunday morning.
Customers like Bruce Davis have expressed their concern to Counts that they find occurrences such as these to be unsettling.
In his words, “I find it to be quite a bit of a cause for concern.” What I see is that there is no control. Your safety is not guaranteed. The moment you leave the house, for example to go to the shopping center, you never know what you are going to come across. Most of these children belong to gangs. They do not have any regard for human life.
One individual has been taken into custody in connection with the altercation; however, no suspects in the shooting have been identified.
