Major traffic disruption occurred on the southbound side of the FE Everett Turnpike near mile marker 16.0 in Merrimack on Tuesday morning as a result of a collision involving many vehicles that resulted in injuries being reported. Several automobiles were involved in the accident, which took place at approximately 8:05 a.m., during the busiest time of day for commuters.
Almost immediately after the incident was reported, emergency teams were sent to the location where it occurred. At least one injured person received medical help from first responders who were present at the scene; however, the overall number of people who were hurt and the severity of their injuries are not yet known at this time.
During the time that police and emergency personnel were working to handle the incident and perform an initial investigation, there was a major impact on traffic in the region, with congestion causing it to back up along the turnpike. Due to the fact that delays continued far into the middle of the morning, commuters were strongly encouraged to exercise care and look for alternative routes.
Continuing their investigation into what caused the crash, the New Hampshire Department of Transportation and local law enforcement are looking into the matter. Among the contributing elements that are being investigated are the following distance, the speed, and the conditions of the roadway.
Our sympathies are with those who have been impacted by this collision, and we hope that everyone involved finds a speedy recovery.
