18-Year-Old Massachusetts Student Dies in Crash After Prom; Police Release New Information

FALMOUTH, Mass. — The Falmouth community is grieving the sudden loss of Ava Lodico, an 18-year-old senior at Falmouth High School, who tragically died in a car accident late Saturday night, just hours after attending her school’s prom.

Prom Night Turns Tragic

Ava Lodico had enjoyed what should have been one of the happiest nights of her life — her junior-senior prom at The Coonamessett in Falmouth. But that joy was cut short when her white Range Rover SUV crashed and rolled over on Acapeseket Road around 11 p.m. Saturday.

She was rushed to Falmouth Hospital by ambulance but later succumbed to her injuries. Authorities confirmed the heartbreaking news on Monday, sharing condolences with Ava’s family and the wider school community.

Remembering Ava: A Fun-Loving, Magnetic Spirit

Family members and friends have come forward to share memories of Ava, describing her as a vibrant and beloved young woman.

“She was like a princess to us all,” said Ava’s god-sister, Jada Rose. “We were really close growing up — like the three musketeers.”

Her god-brother, Tayden Rose, expressed the deep sense of loss felt by all. “It’s just a shame. She had her prom last night — at least she had the best day she could.”

Community Support and Grieving Together

In the days following the accident, students and staff at Falmouth High School gathered to support each other. Counseling services were made available in the school library Sunday and Monday to help everyone process the tragedy.

Friends of Ava gathered at the crash site on Sunday to build a memorial, including a handmade cross crafted by some of her classmates.

A Mother’s Heartbreaking Witness

A neighbor shared that Ava’s mother was driving behind her during the accident, adding a painful layer to the family’s grief.

In response to this tragedy, Ava’s cousins urged other young drivers to be careful. Tayden Rose warned, “Even if you’ve been driving for a year or two, don’t drive emotionally.”

A Family’s Difficult Journey

Coming to terms with the loss has been overwhelming for Ava’s loved ones. “She was the baby of the family. We all loved her dearly,” Jada said. “It’s really hard.”

The community echoes this sorrow, struggling to accept that such a bright light has gone out so soon.

Ongoing Investigation

Falmouth Police, with the assistance of the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council’s Accident Reconstruction Team, continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A Somber Reminder

As the town prepares for graduation on June 7, Ava’s passing casts a shadow over what should be a joyful milestone for the entire class.

Her story serves as a heartbreaking reminder for young drivers everywhere about the importance of staying safe behind the wheel.
