Chicago: Hung Jury Declares Deadlock in Case of 14-Year-Old's Fatal Shooting

During the trial of a man from Northern Virginia who is accused of killing a youngster who was 14 years old in Herndon, the jury was unable to reach a verdict.

In March of 2024, Michai Malave was murdered. He was shot and died in the parking lot of a hotel in Herndon.

The inquiry conducted by the police led to the conclusion that Michai and his companion, who was 16 years old at the time, got into a fight with Ismael Cruz Delcid, who was 18 years old at the time.

Cruz Delcid acknowledged to shooting and killing Michai, as well as shooting at the 16-year-old but missing him despite his attempts.

According to Cruz Delcid, he fired his gun in self-defense. However, he is accused of concealing the firearm, removing some of his clothing, trashing his cellphone, and hiding out for more than a day before ultimately handing himself in to the authorities.

That is hardly the behavior of someone who is acting in self-defense, according to the prosecution’s argument.

Regardless, the jury was unable to reach a decision that was accepted by all members.

The case is scheduled to have a status hearing the following month.
