Tragedy Strikes Wilton, Maine: Woman Killed and Man Left in Critical Condition After House Fire

Overnight, a fire broke out in a residence in Wilton, Maine, resulting in the death of a woman and the critical injury of a man who had allegedly leapt from the blazing building.

In a statement, the office of the state fire marshal stated that it is conducting an investigation into the deadly fire that took place at 62 Magrath Road shortly after midnight on Saturday.

The firefighters and detectives who responded to the scene established that two occupants were present inside the house at the time of the fire. These residents were Robert Adams, who was 84 years old, and Sharon Rainey, who was 81 years old and his significant other.

According to the authorities, Adams was discovered outside the property by a neighbour who had watched the fire. It is believed that Adams had jumped from a window and thus sustained injuries.

At the time of the rescue, Rainey was still inside the blazing house, suffering from severe burns. The neighbour and the Wilton police officers who responded to the scene entered the house through a window.

According to the officials, Adams and Rainey were initially taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital, and then shortly after that, they were airlifted by LifeFlight to Maine Medical Centre in Portland, where Rainey ultimately succumbed to her injuries and passed away. Adams’ condition is still considered to be critical.

A neighbour and two policemen from the Wilton Police Department were sent to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

The early investigation indicates that a fire that occurred in a chimney may have been the cause of the incident; however, the enquiry is still underway, according to the officials.
