Halifax Woman, 24, Tragically Killed in Early-Morning Crash on Route 22/322

There was a single-vehicle accident that occurred on Monday morning, which resulted in the closure of a portion of Route 22/322 west for several hours.

Halifax resident Makayla Creeley, who was 24 years old, was identified as the victim by the Pennsylvania State Police.

Near mile marker 230 in Reed Township, just after three o’clock in the morning, emergency dispatchers received a report of a single-vehicle accident that involved a pickup truck.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police, a man from Halifax, who was 27 years old at the time, was driving west on Route 322 when he lost control of his vehicle after surpassing another vehicle and collided with an embankment.

According to reports, the pickup truck rolled over multiple times before coming to a stop partially on the tracks of the Norfolk Southern railroad.

On the morning of June 16, 2025, parts of the road that was closed on US 22/322 in Dauphin County have been identified. When the collision occurred, Creeley, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was thrown out of the vehicle and was later pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

At the time of the incident, the woman was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the state police.

The driver, who was 27 years old, was taken to the hospital for treatment of what are believed to be serious injuries.

According to a spokesperson for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation named Fritzi Schreffler, all westbound lanes were closed for several hours on Monday morning between the exit for Mountain Road and the exit for Halifax. At approximately 8:40 in the morning, the road was once again accessible.

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) issued a warning to motorists in the eastbound lanes that they may also experience delays in the area due to rubbernecking. Norfolk Southern was called to stop train traffic.
