8 Adults and 12 Children Suffer Injuries After Lightning Strike at Lake Murray

Lightning struck eight adults and twelve children at the Dominion Beach Park at Dreher Shoals Dam in Lexington on Tuesday afternoon, according to South Carolina Emergency Management. The park is located in Lexington.

Around 5:00 p.m., the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, the Irmo Fire District, the Lexington County Emergency Medical Services, and the Lexington County Fire Service all responded to the scene.

According to the National Weather Service in Columbia, the strike appears to have been a single bolt based on the reports from the source as well as the data from the lightning detection network.

Twenty people were hurt in total; two of them received medical attention at the scene of the accident, while the remaining eighteen were transported to a nearby hospital.

All of the patients are anticipated to make a full recovery, according to the officials.

Following the completion of assessments and receiving clearance from the relevant authorities, Dominion Beach Park is anticipated to reopen on Wednesday.
