17-Year-Old Accused of Kidnapping 3-Year-Old After Violent Attack on Father

After allegedly beating a guy with a plunger and then fleeing with the victim’s preschooler, a teenager from Tennessee is currently being held in custody.

18-year-old Charles Coffman is currently being held at the Knox County Jail on charges of attempted second-degree murder, tampering with evidence, aggravated kidnapping, and theft. He was arrested on these charges. A welfare check was requested at a residence in Knoxville at approximately 8:45 a.m. on Sunday, according to a report filed by the police. The officers responded to the residence. Reports indicate that the caller expressed their belief that the father inside might have passed away and that his daughter, who is three years old, might have been taken away.

According to the account, the cops were able to force their way inside the house and discovered the homeowner with a significant head injury while naked in the bathroom. According to reports, the children were nowhere to be found, and the house smelt like bleach.

It was also reported that the Ford Expedition belonging to the accused victim was unavailable. Coffman, an unnamed lady, and the child who had been reported missing were all discovered in the automobile not long after the police issued a search warrant for the vehicle.

According to the complaint that the police filed, Coffman allegedly said that his mother had contacted him from jail and asked him to retrieve the child from the residence located on Mercer Street. According to the police, the child’s legal guardians were Coffman’s mother and the person who was allegedly the victim.

It was reported that Coffman stated that he and the woman took an Uber to the residence, where he participated in a physical conflict with the individual who resided there.

Coffman was alleged to have told police that he “slammed the victim into the ground, struck him in the face multiple times with his fists, struck [the victim] with a toilet plunger and stuffed this plunger into the victim’s mouth.” Furthermore, according to the report, he acknowledged to “dragging the victim into the bathroom, stripping him naked, and pouring bleach on the victim’s wounds.” This was a statement that was made by him.

In addition, Coffman admitted to stealing the vehicle belonging to the alleged victim, but he stated that he received permission from the child’s mother to do so, as stated in the police report.

The mother of Coffman reportedly told the police that she had not spoken to her son, who was the subject of the investigation. It is also alleged that she stated that she “did not and would not” have let him to take custody of the child or to steal the car belonging to the alleged victim under any circumstances.

There were statements included in the report from the woman who was not identified but who was said to have accompanied Coffman to the residence of the said victim. After entering the house, she discovered the man lying on the ground, as she reported to the police. After that, it is said that Coffman brought the child to her, and the three of them departed in the Ford Expedition.

She is said to have said to the police that she overheard a discussion that Coffman was having on the phone. During that conversation, he allegedly discussed the alleged altercation and stated that he “didn’t know if the victim was alive or dead.”

A nearby hospital was dispatched to receive the accused victim. The report states that he was provided with a diagnosis of a subdural haematoma in addition to other critical injuries. He was unable to be reached by the police.

The Knox County Jail was the location where Coffman was booked on Monday. The hearing for his bond was scheduled for this coming Friday.
