After fatally slamming the head of a one-year-old child on the floor, an Ohio man who had previously pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity has had his plea changed.
Four months after he was the last person seen with the one-year-old girl, Michael Mayor, who is 34 years old, entered a guilty plea to one count of murder on Thursday. For the time being, the child was being watched over by a babysitter who also happens to be the Mayor’s wife. On the 5th of December, 2024, Mayor was left alone with the girl while his wife took the other children in her care to school. This was, as was previously reported.
It was his wife’s assumption that the young girl was sleeping when she returned home; however, when she did not wake up from her nap, the babysitter dialed 911. Due to the fact that she would not stop crying, the Mayor later admitted that he “slammed” her on the floor of the bedroom.
The girl was taken to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with a skull fracture in the back of her head, a subdural hematoma, and other “complex injuries,” as stated in the police report that was filed at the time about the incident. After treating the girl, the attending physician stated that the injuries were the result of a “massive impact.”
“He’shook’ [the baby], and when she cried louder, he began to’slam’ her on the floor of the bedroom,” the Mayor admitted to the police, when they demanded an explanation. This was not done on the blankets, as he stated, and he repeated this action multiple times until she stopped crying. After that, he indicated that he thought the girl had fallen asleep, and he left her alone, as stated in the report filed by the police.
On December 11th, Mayor was taken into custody and charged with one count of felony assault as well as three counts of endangering children. He is currently being held on a bond of one million dollars. According to the charges, he was charged with three counts of murder after the girl passed away on December 20. Although Mayor entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity on February 5, he was not found to be competent to stand trial until March 11.
On June 26, Mayor entered a guilty plea to one count of murder, precluding the trial that was supposed to take place earlier in the month of June. As part of the plea agreement, all of the other charges were dropped against the defendant.
A sentence is going to be handed down to the Mayor on August 5th.
