According to the police, a shooting that occurred early on Wednesday morning in North Philadelphia resulted in the death of a man and the arrest of a suspect.
On Wednesday, July 2, 2025, just after 1:30 a.m., police were on patrol around the 1800 block of W. Hunting Park Ave. when they heard many gunshots coming from the 1900 block of W. Hunting Park Ave., directly outside of a lounge. This information was provided by Chief Inspector Scott Small of the Philadelphia Police Department.
According to Small, when those police arrived at the site, they saw a man who was rushing away while holding something in his hands. Subsequently, the officers pursued the individual, and they were eventually able to catch up with him and take him into custody.
According to Small, officers discovered another man lying on the sidewalk, lifeless, suffering from gunshot wounds to his face, head, and torso. The victim was found from the location where the suspect was rushing back and forth.
At one minute and forty-three seconds after the arrival of the medical personnel, the victim of the gunshot was pronounced dead, as stated by Small.
“At this very moment, this victim would be a John Doe. “He appears to be a male in his 30s, but we are not certain because he was shot in the face and the head, and there is a lot of blood, so it is difficult to identify approximately how old he is,” said Small. “He was shot in both the face and the head.”
A semi-automatic weapon was discovered by the officers after they had retraced their tracks through a neighboring alley after they had taken the guy into custody, according to Small.
We are aware that a semi-automatic weapon was responsible for firing at least fourteen shots. There are around 14 spent shell casings, the most of which are located within a few feet of the corpse of the deceased. The fact that some of the round casings are only a few inches away from the corpse of the victim is an indicator that the shooter was standing very, very close to the victim at the time that these several shots were fired, which resulted in the victim being struck and killed, as stated by Small.
Small stated that they do not have a reason for the shooting at this time; however, he is hopeful that surveillance cameras in the neighborhood may assist them in putting together the pieces of the puzzle that are the shooting.
