Body Found in Delaware Bay Confirmed as Missing Teen from New Jersey

Yorch Niz-Chilel, 18, was last seen on Tuesday in the Broadkill River. His body was found in the Delaware Bay on Wednesday and has been positively identified by Delaware State Police.

DSP says that he was found near the Outer Wall of Delaware Bay.

CoastTV News was told by both the Lewes Fire Department and the Delaware State Police that a body was found Wednesday night. The police thought it was Yorch Niz-Chilel, but they weren’t sure until just before 10 p.m.

Niz-Chilel was fishing on Oyster Rocks Road on Tuesday afternoon when he slipped and fell into the water. He was standing on a piece of wood.

It was only hours ago that a man who had been lost off of Rehoboth Beach on Saturday was found at the south end of Cape Henlopen State Park.

The body of Gregory Karitu, 27, from Kenya was found in the water off of Cape Henlopen State Park at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, according to cops in Rehoboth.

The Lewes Fire Department says that Karitu was seen by a kayaker about 1,000 yards out to sea, between Herring Point and the Bathhouse.

Several agencies were involved

Delaware State Police Master Cpl. Lewis Briggs, who works as a public information officer, said that several agencies worked together to look for Niz-Chilel on the second day.

“The search resumed this morning that included the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit, Delaware State Police Maritime and Scuba team, as well as DNREC Police,” said Briggs.

Since Tuesday, Niz-Chilel’s family has stayed close to the scene of the crime, trying to find out what happened.

“There were quite a few family members and friends, not at the scene but close enough,” said Briggs. “We are working with them through our victim services unit to make sure they have the information they need.”
