Brooklyn, NY – A 22-year-old felon on parole was shot by NYPD officers after they interrupted an active gunfight in Prospect Park South on Tuesday evening. The second suspect managed to escape and remains at large, according to police.
The confrontation unfolded around 7:30 p.m. on Ocean Avenue, when patrolling officers heard gunfire and spotted two individuals exchanging shots. Acting immediately, the officers made a split-second decision to intervene.
“Tonight our officers ran towards gunfire and they bravely and immediately confronted a dangerous situation,”
said Assistant Chief Frank Giordano of Patrol Borough Brooklyn South during a press conference.
The Confrontation
Police said the officers quickly exited their patrol vehicles, drew their weapons, and fired at the suspect closest to them — identified as Edynesson Bauduy, a two-time convicted violent felon currently on parole until 2030.
Bauduy, who was struck by at least one bullet, was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition. Both officers involved in the shooting were taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
The Suspect’s Criminal History
Authorities revealed that Bauduy’s criminal record includes serious offenses.
- 2021 Arrest – At just 18 years old, Bauduy was arrested for another shooting incident in Brooklyn.
- Subsequent Offense – Following his release, he was arrested again for a violent commercial robbery in South Brooklyn.
- Guilty Pleas – Bauduy pleaded guilty in both cases, receiving concurrent sentences.
- Recent Release – He was released from prison just two months ago on June 10.
Giordano criticized the sentencing structure that allowed Bauduy to return to the streets so soon.
“If he received a consecutive sentence for his two distinct violent crimes, he would not be out on the streets right now, involved in yet another shooting that endangers our public,”
Giordano said.
“This is a person who has repeatedly shrugged his shoulders at consequences and at our criminal justice system for these violent crimes that he committed.”
The Second Gunman Escapes
The second suspect fled the scene toward Church Avenue and has not been located. Police said his identity and whereabouts remain unknown as the investigation continues.
One firearm and several shell casings were recovered from the crime scene. Authorities are working to determine whether both weapons used in the shootout have been accounted for.

Officers Praised for Swift Action
NYPD officials emphasized that the officers followed their training by immediately addressing a life-threatening situation.
“Once again, our officers confronted a dangerous situation, an armed individual, and did exactly what they were trained to do,”
Giordano told reporters.
According to NY Post, Police leaders highlighted that quick intervention prevented potential harm to bystanders in a densely populated neighborhood.
Ongoing Investigation
The shooting is being reviewed by NYPD’s Force Investigation Division, which examines officer-involved shootings to ensure protocol compliance. Detectives are also canvassing the area for surveillance footage and witnesses that could help track down the second suspect.
The incident underscores ongoing concerns about repeat offenders and parole policies in New York City. The case has sparked renewed debate over how the justice system handles violent criminals after release.
