Dallas, Texas — A devastating crash in South Dallas on Wednesday morning left three people dead, including two children, and sent several others to the hospital, according to the Dallas Police Department. The collision happened just before 8 a.m. at the intersection of East Clarendon Drive and North Street, less than a mile from the Dallas Zoo.
Authorities say the incident involved two vehicles—a white Toyota SUV and a heavy-duty pickup truck—and caused catastrophic damage.
What Happened Wednesday Morning
According to CBS News, Texas Chopper showed the SUV crushed on one side with numerous airbags deployed, while the heavy-duty pickup truck sustained front-end damage. Witnesses described a chaotic and emotional scene as first responders worked to assist the victims.
Paramedics transported four children and two adults to a nearby hospital. Police later confirmed that one adult, one juvenile, and one child had died from their injuries. The conditions of the remaining victims have not yet been released.
Surveillance Video Captures Moments Before the Crash
Nearby security footage reviewed by police showed the heavy-duty pickup traveling westbound on Clarendon Road just seconds before slamming into the SUV. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and authorities have not confirmed whether speed, road conditions, or other factors played a role.
Witness Richard James, who was nearby at the time, said he heard a loud crash and rushed outside. “I just think this road right here was too slick, and they lost control and hit into this truck right here,” James told reporters.
Residents Say the Road Is Dangerous
Neighbors say the location of the crash has long been a concern. The stretch of road where the collision occurred includes blind curves and low-hanging trees, creating visibility challenges for drivers.
Local resident Dwayne Conger said he drives through the area often and believes changes are needed. “The city needs to do something with this curve right here,” Conger said. “Flashing warning lights, a ‘deep curve’ sign—things they have in other parts of the city for situations like this. You come around, and you can’t see what’s coming.”
Others in the community agree that the combination of limited visibility and high speeds poses an ongoing risk.
Ongoing Investigation
The Dallas Police Department has not released the names of those killed in the crash, pending notification of their families. Investigators are working to determine what caused the collision, including whether weather conditions, road design, driver behavior, or vehicle malfunctions played a role.
Traffic reconstruction experts will review the surveillance footage, vehicle damage, and witness statements as part of the process.
Safety Concerns at Clarendon Drive and North Street
This is not the first time residents have raised concerns about road safety in this part of Dallas. Community members say the area needs improved signage, speed limit enforcement, and possible road redesigns to reduce the risk of future tragedies.
While the city has installed safety measures in other high-risk locations, residents note that Clarendon Drive’s tree cover and sharp turns create unique hazards that demand urgent attention.

Remembering the Victims
The crash has deeply shaken the South Dallas community. Neighbors have left flowers near the intersection, and online condolences are pouring in for the victims’ families. Local advocacy groups are urging city officials to hold a community safety meeting to address the dangers in the area.
What began as a routine Wednesday morning ended in heartbreak for multiple Dallas families. As police continue their investigation, residents hope this tragedy will serve as a catalyst for road safety improvements in the neighborhood.
