Nashville Fire Crew Stops Sexual Assault Outside Church; Woman Dies, Suspect Charged with Rape

Nashville, Tennessee – A shocking and tragic incident unfolded Thursday night on Nolensville Pike, where a Nashville Fire Department crew interrupted an ongoing sexual assault outside a church. Despite the immediate intervention and medical aid, the victim later died at a local hospital, according to Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) officials.

Fire Crew Witnesses Assault in Progress

The events began around 9:30 p.m. when firefighters traveling to a separate call noticed disturbing activity in front of Nashville Life Church. According to MNPD, the crew saw a man sexually assaulting an unconscious woman on the sidewalk.

“They turned around, chirped their siren, and as they pulled up to the sidewalk, Mohamed was attempting to pull up the unconscious victim’s pants,” police said in a statement. The fire crew immediately detained the suspect, called for police backup, and began rendering emergency aid to the victim.

Suspect Identified and Charged

The man, identified as 39-year-old Mohamed Mohamed, was arrested and charged with four counts of rape. He was booked into Metro jail late Thursday night.

Court records show his bond was set at $300,000, and police confirmed that Mohamed refused to be interviewed after his arrest. Officials noted that further charges could be considered as the investigation develops, depending on the final findings from the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Surveillance Footage Reveals Disturbing Timeline

Police later reviewed surveillance video that captured moments leading up to the assault. The footage showed the 34-year-old victim, believed to be homeless, walking unsteadily toward the church’s steps. Investigators said she appeared under the influence of an unknown substance and had difficulty keeping her balance before sitting down.

Mohamed then approached and sat beside her. Despite the victim’s attempts to push him away as she drifted in and out of consciousness, he proceeded with unwanted advances. The footage reportedly shows Mohamed lifting her off the church steps, placing her on the ground, and assaulting her multiple times before being interrupted by the fire crew.

Victim’s Death Under Investigation

After the incident, officers rushed the woman to a nearby hospital. Tragically, she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Her name has not been released, as police chaplains are still working to notify her family.

According to Fox News, As of Friday, the Medical Examiner’s Office was awaiting toxicology results to determine the official cause of death. Investigators noted that while the sexual assault charges stand, the victim’s sudden death may impact the ongoing case if additional findings reveal other contributing factors.

Community Shock and Law Enforcement Response

The case has left the Nashville community horrified. Many expressed gratitude to the fire crew for intervening quickly, noting that without their action, the suspect might have escaped.

“This was one of the most disturbing incidents our department has seen in recent years,” one MNPD spokesperson said. “We are grateful to our fire colleagues who acted immediately, but we are devastated by the loss of the victim.”

Local advocacy groups for victims of sexual assault are also speaking out, emphasizing the need for better protections for vulnerable populations, including homeless women. The case has reignited conversations about safety in public spaces and the role of first responders in preventing further harm.
