Discovery of the Body in Michoud Neighborhood
New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick announced Wednesday that the body of Bryan Vasquez, who went missing on August 14, was discovered in a lagoon in the city’s Michoud neighborhood.
According to Kirkpatrick, the child’s official cause of death was determined to be drowning, compounded by injuries inflicted by an alligator.
“This is a deeply tragic case for the family and the community,” Kirkpatrick said, adding that investigators continue to look into all aspects of the incident.
Disappearance and Search Efforts
Bryan Vasquez, who had a neurodevelopmental condition and was nonverbal, vanished during the early morning hours of August 14. His family reported that he climbed out of his bedroom window around 5 a.m., and security footage from a nearby residence later captured him wandering the neighborhood wearing only an adult diaper.
His disappearance sparked an urgent search led by law enforcement, volunteers, and community groups. The United Cajun Navy, a volunteer emergency response organization well-known for its rescue missions, played a critical role in the search.
