Texas Man Arrested for Killing Girlfriend’s Ex-Husband, Dragging Body Down Street

LUFKIN, TEXAS — A deadly confrontation at a birthday party in East Texas ended with a 44-year-old man fatally stabbed and his body dragged down a street, authorities said. Jamarcus Dewayne Doggett, 31, was arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death of Wesley A. Agent over the weekend.

Fatal Altercation Outside Birthday Party

According to the Lufkin Police Department, the incident occurred in the early morning hours on Saturday near the 900 block of Glenn Street. Police responded to a 911 call reporting a disturbance at approximately 2:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers learned that the victim, Wesley Agent, had been stabbed and was transported to a local hospital by a personal vehicle. Despite medical efforts, Agent was pronounced dead around 3:15 a.m.

Suspect Flees, Later Located by Police

The suspected assailant, Doggett, initially fled the scene, prompting officers to track him to a nearby home for questioning. At that time, authorities had not yet made an arrest, citing the ongoing investigation.

By Monday, investigators had gathered sufficient evidence to formally arrest Doggett and charge him with murder.

Details from Probable Cause Affidavit

According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by KTRE, both men attended the same birthday party and engaged in a fight in the street. A family member of the victim told police that a knife was taken from Doggett following the altercation.

An officer responding to a separate 911 hang-up later observed Doggett and his brother standing in the street. The officer noticed blood on Doggett’s clothing and a cut on his hand, detaining the pair at the scene. Doggett was taken to a hospital for excessive blood loss before being processed for arrest.

Doggett’s Account

Doggett admitted to knowing Agent because he was dating Agent’s ex-wife, according to a local news outlet. He claimed that Agent had been following him around town and attempting to confront him multiple times earlier in the day.

During the party, Doggett said that Agent arrived, parked in the street, and punched him in the face. Doggett reportedly responded by hitting Agent back, grabbing a knife, and swinging it two or three times, striking him.

Doggett admitted to punching Agent in the shoulder area and dragging him down the street by pulling his shirt over his head, after which he blacked out.

Arrest and Bond

Doggett was booked into the Angelina County Jail and is currently held on a $300,000 bond. Court dates have not yet been scheduled, and authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deadly altercation.

Community and Safety Concerns

The incident has raised concerns about violence at social gatherings and the need for community awareness in Lufkin. Police officials urge residents to report disputes early and to avoid escalating confrontations that could result in serious harm or fatalities.

The deadly stabbing underscores ongoing issues of interpersonal violence and the importance of law enforcement intervention in potential conflicts.
