“This is some crazy stuff,” said Mike Charow, who documented the flooding in Tescott.
Similarly, Brookville faced heavy pooling of water on its roads, turning everyday commutes into perilous water crossings.
Meanwhile, the city of Wichita recorded 1.25 inches of rain. Despite the flooding, some local residents found humor in the situation as floodwaters pushed traffic cones down streets, likened to a playful race.
“Cheap entertainment,” joked Eric Toms, who filmed the traffic cone spectacle in Wichita.

In response to the widespread flooding, Governor Laura Kelly issued a state of disaster emergency for north central and south central Kansas. This declaration enables mobilization of additional resources to assist affected communities.

“Heavy rains and flooding impacted several counties yesterday and we will do what we can to support those counties. Do not drive into standing water, just 12 inches of rushing water can carry away most cars. Turn around, don’t drown.”
