North Alabama and southern Middle Tennessee will be hit with dangerous heat through Thursday evening. In places like Huntsville, Florence, Cullman, and Fayetteville, the heat index could reach as high as 107 degrees.
The National Weather Service in Huntsville says that Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Morgan, Cullman, Lincoln, and Moore counties will still have a Heat Advisory until Thursday at 7 p.m. People who live in Decatur, Athens, Russellville, and Muscle Shoals should be extra careful because the heat and humidity are making conditions very uncomfortable.
The police and first responders are telling everyone to stay inside if they can, especially in the afternoon when it’s most busy. Local hospitals say that older people, children, and people who work outside are more likely to get heat-related diseases like heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The government says to drink a lot of water, find air conditioning, and stay inside when it’s hot outside. Even for a short time, drivers should never leave their pets or kids in their cars.
Schools and city halls in Madison and Limestone counties are keeping an eye on the weather and may change their outdoor plans if necessary. As the need for air conditioning rises, power companies in the area tell their users to use less energy when they can.
The Heat Advisory lasts until 7 p.m. Thursday, and more weather updates may be needed if the trend stays the same on Friday.
