Authorities Recover Body of 15-Year-Old Girl Found Along East River After Week-Long Search

The hunt for a 15-year-old boy who has been reported missing and is believed to have gone into the East River one week ago has come to an end.

On Friday, the New York Police Department announced that the young girl had been found, exactly one week after the authorities had begun their search for her in the vicinity of Roosevelt Island. They were able to determine that the girl was Graceline Ilogene, who was from Manhattan.

In the vicinity of the spot where it was suspected that she had entered the water, a pair of white sneakers, a jacket, and a few books were found arranged in an orderly fashion by the fencing.

Last weekend, divers from the New York Police Department and the Fire Department spent numerous days searching for her in the hopes of finding her alive. In order to look for the girl under the bridge that joins Roosevelt Island and Long Island City, divers used ropes and ladders to enter the East River and search for her. The vessels belonging to the NYPD Harbor Unit that were in the sea were most likely use side-scanning sonar in an effort to locate her.

In the air, a drone and a chopper from the New York Police Department searched the ocean.

It is the responsibility of the city’s medical examiner to determine the cause of her death.

The visibility below the surface of the water in the East River is exceedingly poor, and it is well known that the East River has a turbulent current. From East 90th Street to the island, there is a New York City Ferry line that travels through this corridor, making it a major passage for vessels.
