Authorities Rescue 8-Month-Old Baby from Squalid Conditions Amid 41 Animals and Dead Goat

South Carolina cops recently talked about a very scary case they’re working on. It was said that Kayla Renard and Nicholas Foley, a young couple, were living in filth with their baby. Police say their house was full of different kinds of animals, both alive and dead. It is said that the couple never cleaned up after the animals and left poop and pee all over the place. Police also say that the animals weren’t fed, so many of them were sick. Now, the two are being charged.

The Honea Path Police told the public about the find in a Facebook post. As asked by the Department of Social Services, police went to Renard and Foley’s house on Monday, May 19, 2025. The baby who lived with them, who was 8 months old, caused worry.

When police got at the house, they “found severe unsafe and unsanitary conditions.” Several kinds of animals, like foxes, rabbits, dogs, cats, chickens, and dead animals, were found in the house. “Animal waste and faeces are all over the house,” the report says. Police also say they found the body of a goat breaking down in the bathroom.

Then, the cops asked Dr. Kim Sanders from the Anderson County PAWS to help them with the 47 animals they had found.

“In my more than 30 years of service, I have never seen such a horrible situation with so many animals and dirty conditions,” the statement concluded.

WYFF talked to Dr. Sanders about what PAWS found in the house. “It was disgusting and sad for me and my staff.” “Seeing animals in that kind of pain is just awful,” she said. “That was tough, and to know there was also an 8-month-old baby in there… I can’t understand.”

“The kid is fine.” “For how dirty the house was, the child was in pretty good shape,” Police Chief Christopher Miller said in a statement that WYFF shared. The child is being cared for by a family member right now.

Miller says that neither Renard nor Foley were upset about what was going on. “You would think that they would be a little upset that someone was taking their 8-month-old baby and that the police were there and saw how bad the house was.” “You’d think they’d know they were in trouble,” he said.

Renard and Foley were charged with having inappropriate behaviour towards a child and being cruel to animals. They were also charged with breaking town rules. They both have a $10,000 bond.
