British Man Dies in Florida After Drowning at Beach with No Safety Flags

After the death of a grandfather who was 74 years old and drowned while swimming in the ocean, a coroner has stated that she will write to the authorities in Florida to express her concerns regarding beach safety flags following the incident. Mark Gosling, who was on vacation with his wife Caroline on Anna Marie Island in the state of New Hampshire, was caught in a riptide while he was on vacation. Mark Gosling is from Lymington, which is located in the New Forest.

Mrs. Gosling stated in a statement that was read to the Winchester inquest that she and her husband had gone for a morning walk on the beach on May 18, 2024, when her husband went for a swim and began jumping in the waves.

According to what she said, “I sat on a bench and watched him.” I returned to the lower part of the beach, closer to the water, after noticing that he had gone further up the beach.

It was then that I noticed that his head had turned backwards, as if it had been turned upside down. It is possible that he was unaware of the presence of a riptide, and despite the fact that he was a competent swimmer and sailor, he was not as strong as he believed he was.

According to Mrs. Gosling, she made a call for assistance, and a man got into the water to retrieve her husband and begin performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on him. However, he was subsequently pronounced dead at the hospital. She also mentioned that the stretch of beach where they were staying did not have any sea safety flags or other warning signs.

The flags that they displayed to indicate the current state of the sea are only found in one location, and they were not located where we were staying, according to Mrs. Gosling.
