The man, who was 79 years old and from California, was taken into custody on Thursday after being on the run for 31 years.
After being convicted of operating an illegal marijuana farm in the years prior, Ronald Keith Harvey managed to evade capture and flee from the Federal Correctional Institution in Dublin in the year 1994.
“The amount that he was cultivating was not insignificant. He had more than 600 plants and firearms when he was taken into custody. Cruz Moya stated that at the time, he was in charge of a fairly significant operation.
Deputy United States Marshal Cruz Moya is the individual who has been in charge of the investigation into Harvey’s case. It was earlier this year when his team received a new lead, which ultimately led them to the location where Harvey was hiding.
“Yes, it does take place. When it comes to evading justice and simply going on the run, there are some individuals who are more skilled than others, according to Moya.
Harvey was taken into custody in Nevada City, which is located approximately 60 miles northeast of Sacramento.
From October until the present, he had been residing there with a woman whose name was DeeVee Brown.
Brown stated that she was unaware that Harvey had a warrant out for his arrest when she mentioned that she had a casual relationship with him approximately 35 years ago.
In point of fact, Brown claims that she made it a habit to check in with the sheriff of Nevada County on a monthly basis to determine whether or not Harvey was missing a warrant.
After the United States Marshals Service arrived at her residence to take Harvey into custody, she engaged in a phone conversation with News.
It goes without saying that I was taken aback. He had his own room to himself. According to Brown, “He paid the rent to me on a monthly basis.”
According to the United States Marshals Service, Harvey has approximately four years left on his prison sentence from the 1990s.
Therefore, it is possible that he will be required to serve that time in addition to the sentence that he receives for escaping from prison and evading capture from the authorities.
Law enforcement officials, according to Moya, do not know where Harvey may have been residing prior to moving in with Brown.. According to him, however, he is simply relieved that they have been able to reclaim their man after all these years.
“One thing about the marshal service is that we will find you, no matter how long it takes,” according to Moya.
