Chicago Retains Title as America's Most Bed Bug-Infested City for Another Year

Not only is Chicago the “rattiest” city in the United States, but it has also been ranked as the city with the highest number of bed bugs.

On Monday, Orkin published its annual rankings, which revealed that Chicago has maintained its position as the city with the highest number of bed bugs for the fifth year in a direct succession.

For the purpose of compiling its rankings, the pest control company utilized treatment data from regions in which it carried out the greatest number of bed bug treatments between the dates of May 15, 2024 and May 14, 2025.

The top five consisted of Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Los Angeles, and Indianapolis. Chicago was the fifth and final spot on the list. The list also includes two other metropolitan areas in the state of Illinois: Champaign and Peoria, which came in at positions 9 and 33, respectively.

According to Orkin, vigilance is essential when it comes to preventing bed bugs, especially in light of the busy travel months that are still to come.

According to a press release issued by Orkin, an entomologist named Ben Hottel stated that bed bugs are among the most resistant pests in the world, which makes it extremely challenging to eradicate them if they are introduced into a residential or hotel setting. “As the summer travel season begins to pick up, it is essential that people are aware of the most effective methods to recognize, prevent, and control these pests.”
