Starting on Sunday, five areas in Chicago will be equipped with new speed enforcement cameras that will begin issuing warnings.
It has been reported by the Chicago Department of Transportation that these cameras, which are situated outside of a number of high schools and two parks, would continue to issue warnings until the middle of July, and that full ticketing enforcement will begin.
These are the neighborhoods that are home to the newly installed surveillance cameras:
Located at 4021 West Belmont, Belmont Gardens is home to the Aspira School.
Brighton Park, which is located at 2948 West 47th Street and is home to Mansueto High School
With its location at 8550 South Lafayette Avenue, Chatham is home to Perspectives High School.
Little Italy, located at Arrigo Park, which is located at 631 South Racine
The West Loop Gate is located in Heritage Green Park, which is located at 216 South Jefferson.
On July 15, according to municipal officials, the cameras that are located outside of Benito Juarez High School and Francis Xavier Warde School will begin to generate citations. At present time, the cameras are still in the warning phase.
In accordance with a press release, cameras that are situated in close proximity to schools will be operational from seven in the morning to seven in the evening on school days only. From seven in the morning until four in the afternoon, the speed restriction in certain locations will be twenty miles per hour. However, the speed limit will revert to its posted speed limit from four in the afternoon until seven in the evening, or whenever there are no children present.
For cameras that are situated in close proximity to parks, enforcement will be active throughout the hours that parks are open. The majority of parks in Chicago are open from six in the morning until eleven at night, seven days a week.
For registered owners of vehicles that violate the speed limit by six miles per hour or more, the city has stated that they would be handed penalties once the program is fully operational. A $35 fine will be issued to vehicles that exceed the speed limit by 11 miles per hour or more, while a $100 punishment will be issued to vehicles that speed between 6 and 10 miles per hour.
