City of Fort Myers Removes Fluoride from Water: A Step Toward Public Health Reform?

A state regulation that prohibited the use of fluoride in drinking water led to the removal of fluoride from the water supply in the city of Fort Myers.

Senate Bill 700 was enacted into law by state legislators in May, with the full support of Governor Ron DeSantis.

DeSantis stated that putting the mineral into the water system is essentially the same as putting people through the process of taking medication.

This indicates that it will now be up to individuals and dentists to determine how fluoride can be replaced in the event that it is used in dental care by individuals.

Gulf Coast News has engaged in conversations with local dentists in the region, who have informed us that the majority of toothpastes include fluoride.

There is a fluoride rinse that you can use to rinse your teeth before going to bed every night if you are at a high risk of developing cavities at night.

The introduction of fluoride into public drinking water is now prohibited in Florida, making it the second state after Utah to do so.
