D.C. Teen Dies in Accidental Shooting While Filming Social Media Video, Police Say

While making a video for social media, a young woman from Washington, District of Columbia, inadvertently shot and killed herself, according to the police.

Nearly after five o’clock on Wednesday evening, officers came to an apartment in Northeast Washington, District of Columbia, for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found a girl, aged 14, suffering from a gunshot wound, according to the police. It is believed by the authorities that the discharge of the gun occurred by accident when the teenager was making a video to upload to social media.

According to a statement released by the police, “the preliminary investigation indicates that the girl was handling a firearm while recording a video for social media when the weapon discharged, striking her in the upper body,”

There was a large number of persons present at the residence at the time of the shooting, including at least one adult. In addition, the firearm has been found, according to the police.

Although the police officers who arrived at the scene attempted to save the teen’s life, she ultimately succumbed to her injuries and passed away. The identify of the girl has not been disclosed by the District of Columbia police.

An investigation into the occurrence is being conducted by the authorities as a “accidental shooting.”

A number of the young girl’s neighbors expressed their condolences to the news channel after learning of her passing.

It is my prayer that the parents of that person are blessed. A neighbor named Wokie Jones stated that God ought to give them strength because, as far as I can see, they are sick and weary of weapons.

Pamela Smith, the Chief of Police, described the shooting as “a devastating reminder of the dangers of weapons getting into the hands of young people.”

Smith continued by saying, “Firearms are not toys or props, and they must be properly secured in a place where they can only be accessed by lawful gun owners as they are not toys or props.”
