What was supposed to be a typical early morning garbage run turned into a terrifying scene at a middle school on Long Island when a man was found perched atop a garbage truck, and another man was later discovered dead inside the truck.
When the vehicle turned into a side lot at approximately 6:30 in the morning, a member of the staff at William T. Rogers Middle School in Kings Park noticed the man who was perched on top of the truck. According to Assistant Chief Mike Frail, who made the statement on Thursday, shortly before kids started arriving for the day.
The subject reported to the cops who responded that he and another individual had been inside a dumpster behind a retail centre on Veterans Memorial Highway in the neighbouring town of Commack when they were unknowingly picked up by the garbage truck.
It’s just wonderful. Frankie Ayala, a resident of Commack, was taken aback by the news and expressed her shock by saying, “I can’t believe someone would be sleeping in the dumpster.”
Both guys were reportedly sleeping behind one of the dumpsters located behind the retail centre, which is located next to establishments such as Burlington, Whole Foods, Five Below, and X-Golf, according to the police.
It’s a terribly unfortunate situation. The proprietor of X-Golf, Geoffrey Schwartz, referred to it as “terrible.” It is possible that during the night, there are individuals who are engaging in dumpster diving, whether it be for bottles, boxes, or whatever it is that they recycle, I suppose.
According to Schwartz, he never in his wildest dreams expected that someone would be sleeping inside of one of the dumpsters that his company utilises.
During the time that firefighters and police were searching through the contents of the garbage truck in an attempt to locate the second man, emergency services took the man who had survived to Huntington Hospital with a leg injury.
Frail stated, “We discovered the second victim inside of that vehicle.” “The remaining EMS personnel on scene checked the patient and advised he was not viable for life and had obvious mortal injuries.”
Everyone in the peaceful town was taken aback by the shocking revelation, but the pupils and parents at the middle school were particularly stunned.
“When I dropped off my son in the morning, I saw a lot of fire, police, and ambulance, but I couldn’t figure out what was going on,” said Mustafa Kemal, a concerned father. “I couldn’t figure out what was going on.”
An additional local person described the situation as being really distressing.
Oh my god, that is really terrible. “It would be prudent for them to inspect the dumpster before beginning the process of emptying it,” Emilia Miller suggested.
When queried about the protocols, a manager from the trash management company that was involved stated that the scenario was unfortunate, but that it is not common routine to inspect inside the dumpsters before emptying them.
Miller went on to say that it was possible that they had nowhere else to go and that was the safest place they could be. “It’s quite unfortunate that they had to be discarded in such a manner.”
It was reported by officials from the fire department that the truck’s driver appeared extremely scared and distressed as a result of what had occurred.
While efforts are still being made to identify the two guys and contact their relatives, the police have not yet made public the names of the individuals involved. An autopsy was being performed by the office of the medical examiner in order to ascertain the cause of death of the individual.
According to the sources, there was no suspicion of criminal activity.
