The death that happened while criminal arrest warrants were being carried out is being looked into by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Release:
The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office has asked the FBI to look into the death of 26-year-old Daquan Phillips from Baltimore, Maryland.
At around 1:50 p.m. on July 18, 2025, the U.S. Marshal Service tried to arrest Phillips on criminal charges at a home in Hinesville’s 30 block of Factors Walk. One person was taken out of the house without any problems. Phillips wouldn’t cooperate, so he locked himself in the house. The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, the Hinesville Police Department, the Savannah Police Department SWAT, the McIntosh County Sheriff’s Office, and the Georgia State Patrol all sent help.
After trying to talk to Phillips for hours, someone broke into his house. Phillips was found in the house with what looked like a gunshot wound. The Liberty County Coroner’s Office later declared him dead. A 5-year-old child was taken from the house without any harm.
Someone will do an autopsy on Phillips’ body when it gets to the GBI Crime Lab in Pooler, Georgia.
This case is still going on. When everything is done, the case file will be sent to the Atlantic Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office to be looked over.
