As a result of an explosion caused by natural gas on Thursday, a home in the Crestwood neighborhood was completely destroyed, and it is assumed that a man has been killed.
As of Thursday, firefighters are still present at the residence located close to the intersection of 141st and Kenneth, where the explosion and fire occurred during the previous day.
At the time of the explosion, which was most likely caused by a natural gas leak, the authorities declared that a guy who was 76 years old was present inside the house.
This information was sent to Randy Gyllenhaal of NBC Chicago by a witness who stated that they heard an explosion and saw papers and other debris flying through the air.
An individual who lived nearby stated that the house was “gone in a second” after the explosion.
The windows of the house, the mail, and the glass in every corner of the house. According to Donna O’Keefe, a neighbor named Donna, “So yeah, we could see the debris falling, and nobody was hit or injured because it happened so quickly.”
Television footage captured by a helicopter revealed the extent of the destruction, which included the burned remnants of the house as well as the damage caused by the fire to other homes in the vicinity.
An announcement was made by Nicor following the occurrence, in which they stated that their teams were present at the scene and that they would “provide support to first responders, as well as assist local authorities with an investigation” into the explosion.
During the course of the response at the scene, firefighters continued clearing out hotspots and searching through the debris into the afternoon on Thursday.
Officials from the fire department verified that at least one residence in the vicinity experienced significant damage, despite the fact that no other people were hurt.
The earliest stages of an investigation are still ongoing.
