On Saturday, a 19-year-old boy was struck and killed by a driver who is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol on Interstate 30 in Arlington. His family members are mourning his loss.
The incident occurred while Angel Alonso was in North Texas for an automobile meet-up event. He was trying to steer traffic away from an earlier collision when he was struck by a vehicle.
The members of Alonso’s family reported that he was reserved, modest, and joyful.
Ingrid Carrasco, the victim’s sister-in-law, stated that the deceased individual simply enjoyed living his life. Cars were his passion, and he cherished his mother and his family.
This weekend, the adolescent traveled to Arlington for a vehicle meet event, despite the fact that he resided with his family in Tennessee.
It was just before four o’clock on Saturday morning when Alonso was driving west on Interstate 30 when he collided with an abandoned car that was parked on the shoulder.
According to Tim Ciesco, a spokeswoman for the Arlington Police Department, “At that point, Mr. Alonso got out of his pickup truck and was attempting to direct traffic around the accident that had occurred using the light on his cell phone.”
The police eventually reported that Brittani Watkins, who was 33 years old at the time, was the driver of the vehicle that struck and killed Alonso.
DWI was the reason for Watkins’ arrest.
“Just telling his mom was the most heartbreaking part for us,” Carrasco added. “It was the most difficult part.” “We found that to be the most unbearable part of the situation.”
Relatives have expressed that the loss has put them in utter disarray.
According to the Arlington Police Department, vehicles should not attempt to intervene in traffic following any accident that occurs on the highway; rather, they should dial 911.
It is just not a safe area for pedestrians to be, as Ciesco stated, thus pedestrians should move over to the shoulder of the road and exit the main lanes of the roadway.
An online fundraising is currently being organized by Alonso’s family in order to generate funds for the purpose of bringing his remains back to them as they prepare for a funeral that was performed much too soon.
The fact that he didn’t even give his own life a second thought was the thing that bothers us the most, according to Carrasco. “His final act was just to protect his car,” he said.
According to the Arlington police, the individual who is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol may be subject to more severe charges as the investigation progresses.
