Fatal Crash on I-81 in Shenandoah County Claims Broadway Man’s Life, Injures Two Others

The Virginia State Police are conducting an investigation into a collision involving two vehicles that occurred on Interstate 81. The collision resulted in the death of one individual and the injury of two others who were transported to the hospital.

According to a release issued by the Virginia State Police, the collision took place at 2:57 a.m. on Sunday at the 284-mile marker on Interstate 81 in Shenandoah County. The incident occurred when a Ford F-150 pickup was going south and attempted to pass a Toyota RAV4 SUV that was parked on the right shoulder. In addition, the report stated that the truck lost control and collided with the SUV before flipping over.

As a result of the accident, the truck driver, identified as Jose O. Torres, 43, from Broadway, was thrown out of the vehicle because he was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the VSP. He was pronounced dead at the spot.

The driver of the SUV was a lady from San Diego, California, and she was sent to Shenandoah Memorial Hospital along with one adult passenger to receive treatment for minor injuries. It was reported by VSP that two other adult passengers in the vehicle were not hurt, and all four of them were wearing their seatbelts.

The collision is still being looked at by authorities.
