Federal Way Driver Caught After Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash on I-5 Monday Night

According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), a guy from Federal Way who is 26 years old has been taken into custody in connection with a hit-and-run accident that took place on northbound Interstate 5 just north of State Route 516 on Thursday, June 9, 2025. The accident resulted in the death of a person.

A black Tesla Model 3 collided with the rear of a grey 2000 Lexus ES that was travelling in lane two at around 6:46 p.m., causing the collision to take place.

According to the testimony of the troopers, the impact caused the Lexus to collide with the right guardrail before coming to a stop in lane one. In addition, the Tesla drifted onto the right shoulder after the incident between the two vehicles.

There were two people inside the Lexus at the time. Unfortunately, the passenger, who was named as Liz L. Vili-Kereti, 61 years old and from Federal Way, was pronounced deceased at the site of the traffic accident. The driver, who was also from Federal Way and was 18 years old, was taken to Harborview Medical Centre for treatment when he sustained injuries. They were not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, according to the State Patrol, which made the observation.

It is believed that the driver of the Tesla, who has been identified as Keith A. Edwards, 26, from Federal Way, ran away from the scene of the accident but was eventually caught. Now, he is being charged with hit-and-run, which is a felony offence. According to the findings of the investigation, the primary cause of the incident was speed. At this time, it is unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.

As a result of the incident, the motorway was closed for three and a half hours while the state police investigated and cleaned up the surroundings.
