The authorities discovered that explosions from pyrotechnics were the cause of a house fire that occurred on Thursday afternoon in Simi Valley. The incident resulted in the death of one person residing in the residence.
An explosion that may have been caused by fireworks was reported to have occurred on the 1600 block of Edmund Street at approximately 11:48 a.m., according to the Ventura County Fire Department, which received complaints about the incident. That the explosions were caused by fireworks was later verified by the Ventura County Fire Department.
Andrea Cardona, a neighbor, described the explosion as “major in magnitude.” “This house was really beautiful. It was sounding like a sonic boom, as if a rocket ship was approaching from the distance.
A “defensive posture” was swiftly adopted by the firemen upon their arrival, and they immediately elevated the fire to a two-alarm status. According to the authorities, the fire that started in the garage spread to other areas of the house, including the attic.
“The roof collapsed on the garage,” said Scott Thomsen, a spokeswoman with the Vancouver Fire Department. “The garage door pieces of it were blown to the front street on the neighbor’s house.”
It has been requested by the Simi Valley Police Department that individuals stay away from the vicinity of Fitzgerald Road between Hudspeth Avenue and Gibson Avenue until further notice.
Investigations are still being conducted into this incident.
“If it was fireworks that caused this, then you can see the dangers of letting off any fireworks,” Cardona explained to reporters.
The man who was discovered inside the residence was thought to be in his forties and to have lived there with his mother, according to the neighbors. During the time that the explosion occurred, she was working.
