Flood Warnings Continue in North Jersey After Heavy Rain Soaks Tri-State Area

On Monday evening, flash flood warnings and watches were issued throughout the New York City area. This was due to the fact that strong storms and heavy rains caused a large number of vehicles to become stuck, which resulted in multiple rescues.

A flash flood warning was issued for New York City until 9:45 p.m., and Governor Phil Murphy of New Jersey declared a state of emergency in the state. A flood warning will continue to be in effect until 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday for the counties of Middlesex, Morris, and Somerset.

Many other communities outside the city were also impacted

Heavy rain and flooding have been experienced in the New York City area.

After lunch, thunderstorms developed to the north and west of the city, and they gradually moved toward the city for the evening commute. Monday began with a calm start, but after lunch, the storms began to develop.

The winds that were produced by these storms were damaging, but what is more concerning is that there were isolated to scattered instances of flash flooding.

Over the course of the day, we experienced rainfall rates of up to three inches per hour, with isolated rainfall totals of three to five inches or more.

It was anticipated that there would be ongoing flooding and/or residual flooding into the evening, with the thunderstorms gradually decreasing in intensity throughout the night.
